IShowSpeed is the online name of Darren Watkins, an American YouTuber and livestreamer. He rose to prominence for his energetic and dramatic livestreams, particularly gaming content such as NBA 2K and Fortnite.
He later expanded into variety, travel, and in-real-life (IRL) streaming, attracting millions of viewers worldwide.
The streamer has tens of millions of YouTube subscribers and is known for his high-energy reactions, direct interaction with fans on camera, and viral moments that frequently spread across platforms like TikTok and YouTube.
Recently, IShowSpeed visited Lagos, Nigeria, as part of his Africa tour, livestreaming several activities, including interactions with fans at public places such as markets and tourist attractions.
Following these livestreams, videos and posts surfaced on social media with different narratives about the streamer.
One of such claims (archived here) was made by an X user, @boutmoney112, who alleged that IShowSpeed was attacked in Lagos.
The post read: “IShowSpeed was attacked and robbed by Yoruba thugs in Lagos because he refused to give them money. He said he will be leaving Nigeria this morning and he’s never coming back.”
The post was accompanied by three pictures of the streamer being attacked during a livestream.

As of Jan. 22, 2025, the post had generated 82,700 views, 405 likes, 305 comments, 87 reposts, and 30 bookmarks.
The claim attracted mixed reactions from users on the platform. While some users, such as @ninaisfeliz appeared to believe the claim, saying “This is terrible, this country will stain your white”.
Others, including @haywi231, dismissed the allegation, stating, “You go just dey post rubbish up and down… I need to block you, please.”
DUBAWA decided to verify the claim due to conflicting opinions and the risk of public misinformation.
Verification
DUBAWA conducted a keyword search to determine whether any credible platform had reported the alleged attack. We found no reputable news outlet reported such an incident.
We reviewed IShowSpeed’s official livestreams and verified social media accounts and found no mention of any robbery or attack, either on his platforms or during subsequent livestreams.
We analysed the videos circulating online. While footage shows large crowds surrounding the streamer, with some individuals asking him for money and security personnel intervening, none of the videos show evidence of a robbery or physical attack.
Notably, IShowSpeed recently celebrated reaching 50 million YouTube subscribers on his 21st birthday during a livestream from Lagos, Nigeria, in January 2026. Throughout the livestream, there were no indications that he was attacked.
We found that one of the images used to suggest that the streamer was attacked during a livestream had been digitally altered to make it appear as though IShowSpeed sustained a facial injury.

Conclusion
The claim that IShowSpeed was attacked and robbed in Lagos is false. Findings from DUBAWA’s verification show no credible evidence to support the allegation. No reputable media outlet reported such an incident, and the streamer himself did not mention any attack or robbery in his livestreams or on his verified social media platforms.
