Claim: The political leader of the Movement for Progressive Change (MPC) claims that the fiscal 2026 budget of the National Security Agency (NSA) exceeds that of the Liberia National Police (LNP).

Full Text

The wage infrastructure of Liberia has come under heavy criticism by the political leader of the Movement for Progressive Change (MPC).

According to Simeon Freeman, many employed Liberians are living under harsh economic conditions because their employers are underpaying them.

He named the Liberia National Police as an institution of the government, which he says is also underpaying its employees.

Freeman says this is due, however, to the low budgetary allocation that the police receive, claiming, “The NSA has more budget than the police in this year’s budget.”

The NSA is the government of Liberia’s foreign and domestic intelligence agency, responsible for ensuring the country’s peace and stability.

He can be heard from 1:27:28 to 1:27:54 of a radio show he sat on as a guest.

To promote truth in the information ecosystem, DUBAWA checked Freeman’s claim.

Verification

DUBAWA reviewed the approved 2026 national budget published by the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning to verify Simeon Freeman’s claim.

The National Security Agency’s budget line shows that the agency is allotted about $22,190,628.

The police, on the other hand, are budgeted to receive about $25,789,660.

This shows the police’s budget is $3,599,032 higher than the MPC’s political leader asserted the NSA has a larger budget than the police.

Conclusion

Therefore, Simeon Freeman’s claim that the NSA has more budget than the police is misleading.
