Claim: Breaking news: The UK government has officially banned Ghanaians from entering the UK and has also warned its citizens not to travel to Ghana, says Kumba Jestina Ghartey
Verdict: False. Checks by DUBAWA on the official UK Travel website indicate that Ghanaian citizens can still travel to the United Kingdom. They only require a standard visa application rule and vice versa. The claimant, on the other hand, failed to prove her accusation.

A popular social media user, Kumba Jestina Ghartey, boldly claimed that the United Kingdom government had officially banned Ghanaian citizens from entering the UK.
She claimed that Ghana was unsafe for travellers due to increasing violence, attacks on foreigners, a high rate of robberies, and other criminal activities.
“The innocent blood of foreigners that Ghanaians have shed is now coming back to haunt them,” she said. “Trust me, now that the UK has declared Ghana unsafe and violent and imposed this ban, other countries may soon follow with similar restrictions.”
Her comments are in solidarity with a Liberian identified as Justin, who was mobbed to death in Ghana.
The original post has generated significant engagement, including over 700 comments, 38 shares, and 245 reactions.
The social media field in Liberia was flooded with anti-Ghana sentiment following Justin’s death, with some calling on President Boakai’s government to launch an investigation for an amicable solution.
Ms Kumba is not alone in spreading information about the alleged ban. A Facebook Influencer named CEO Smash Lord also shared the news on his official timeline.
In the wake of all this, DUBAWA set out to investigate whether Ghana has indeed been banned by the UK from entering the European country.
This is part of our mandate to promote truth-telling in public discourse.
Verification
To ban means to officially or legally prohibit something. The researcher contacted the claimant to provide evidence for her claim. Ms Kumba provided DUBAWA with an explanation that differed significantly from the assertions made on her social media page. Although her original post claimed that the UK had banned Ghanaians from entering the country and warned its citizens against travelling to Ghana, her response to our inquiry suggested an entirely unrelated matter.
She stated: “A Ghanaian national was arrested in the U.S. after applying for immigration benefits in Columbus, Ohio, when officials discovered he had a prior credit-card fraud conviction that he had not disclosed.”
Accordingly, her defence and subsequent clarification directly contradict the allegations contained in her social media claim.
Again, a Google search on the subject indicates that the UK government has not banned Ghanaians from entering the country, nor has it banned British citizens from entering Ghana.
Travel by citizens of Ghana to the United Kingdom is open and requires only a standard visa application, whereas the reverse is not true.
However, there is a localised restriction for British nationals. The advisory cited Bawku Municipality in the Upper East Region due to specific security concerns; however, travel to the rest of the country, including major hubs such as Accra and Kumasi, remains open.
On March 4, 2026, the UK government introduced an “emergency visa brake” to curb asylum claims from legal migration. This policy stops issuing student visas to nationals of Afghanistan, Cameroon, Myanmar, and Sudan, and Skilled Worker visas specifically for Afghans, but not for Ghanaians.
Conclusion
Based on the research analysis, the claimant’s responses, and the established facts, this researcher submits that the claimant provided false information. There is no evidence supporting a travel ban between the United Kingdom and Ghana; rather, the claimant attempted to justify a broad geopolitical claim with an isolated criminal case involving a single individual in the United States.
