Full Text

A post on Facebook (archived here) alleging that a man identified as Sheku Muctarr Kamara had died. The post further called on sympathisers to visit his residence in Hill Station, Freetown, or contact the listed telephone number.

Sheku Putka Kamara is a popular Sierra Leonean journalist and communications lecturer based in Sierra Leone.

The claim attracted reactions and comments from social media users, with some expressing their condolences.

Due to its potential misinformation to the public, DUBAWA decided to fact-check it.

Verification

DUBAWA investigated the claim by contacting Sheku Kamara directly. During the verification process, Sheku Kamara confirmed that he is alive and in good health. He stated that the Facebook post announcing his death was false.

Further checks found no credible announcement from family members, friends, community leaders, or any reliable source confirming his death.

It is worth noting that the individual in the photo is Sheku Putka Kamara, not Sheku Muctarr Kamara, as stated in the post.

Conclusion

The claim that Sheku Muctarr Kamara is dead is false. DUBAWA’s verification, which included direct contact with the subject and a review of publicly available sources, confirmed that Sheku Putka Kamara is alive and in good health. No credible source corroborated the death claim, and the name discrepancy in the original post further undermines its credibility.
