Israel-Iran conflict: Another dated social media video brought to life to paint new narrative

Israel-Iran conflict: Another dated social media video brought to life to paint new narrative

Verdict: Misleading! The video is from March 2022 and shows an argument that occurred after a terrorist attack in Hadera, not in response to the recent Israel-Iran conflict. The subtitles circulating with the video are fabricated.

Full Text

The IsraelIran clash, a full-blown war often described as a conflict, has in recent months gotten broad coverage due to the intensity of attacks that have happened between the two countries. Both sides were left to bear the brunt of attacks that resulted in deaths, with victims having different degrees of injuries.

Different international news platforms covered stories of this uprising from various angles, not just because they were eager to cover the next trending event for their newsrooms, but primarily because of the danger and risk such an event posed to the affected regions and the world.

While this was ongoing, social media users came into the scene and shared misleading stories related to the war. For instance, DUBAWA quashed a claim that suggested Nigeria had deployed troops for a peacekeeping mission in Israel. See other related fact checks here, here, here, here, and.

Recently, a  Facebook user @Bangsamoro-UK shared a video with a caption insinuating a brawl between two Israeli men, which reads,

“As Iranian missiles rained down on Israel, Israeli officials turned on each other, fighting, finger-pointing, and scrambling to dodge both the blasts and the blame.”

In the video, two elderly individuals are seen confronting each other, stretching forward and exchanging words in a language that is not English. As the tension builds, people around them step in, trying to separate the pair and prevent the argument from escalating.

The caption further implies that Itamar Ben-Gvir, the National Security Minister of Israel, and Omer Bar-Lev, a politician, were arguing because of a recent shooting attack in Hadera.

As of July 14, 2025, when the video was seen, it had 278 comments, 409 shares, and 1,700 likes.

It was clear that the Facebook user was suggesting the recent missile attack on Israel by Iran was the motivation behind the tussle between the two men in the video.

Considering this, DUBAWA decided to investigate further to ascertain the accuracy of the claim.

Verification

We ran key frames from the video through a reverse image search. We discovered that the video was first published in March 2022 on the Israeli TV channel’s X account, three years before the current conflict between Israel and Iran broke out.

The video shows a confrontation between the two men that took place on March 27, 2022, in the Israeli city of Hadera after a deadly attack took place there. That day, two men with links to the Islamic State group opened fire on Israeli police officers, killing two officers and injuring some civilians.

The Times of Israel reported this confrontation and confirmed that it was between Ben Gvir, a deputy at the Israeli parliament, the Knesset, and then security minister Bar-Lev, which was about the terrorist attack that had taken place in 2022, and not about recent strikes on Iran in 2025.

“Stop it! You should be ashamed! You’re the worst minister. They took the most leftist person they could find and made him public security minister!” Ben Gvir shouted at Bar-Lev.

“No, I’m not ashamed,” Bar-Lev responded. “You should be ashamed! You’re nothing!”

The translation provided in this report does not relate to the one shared by the Facebook user who made the claim.

Conclusion

The video is real but misrepresented. It shows a 2022 argument unrelated to the recent Israel-Iran conflict. The subtitles are false, and this renders the claim misleading.
