Ntombi Toni Khumalo Jackson (Toni), wife of Liberian Economist and politician, Sam Jackson, died on 13th March. The economist announced the death via Facebook and attributed the cause of death to poor healthcare conditions in Liberia.

Later that day, social media got flooded with suspicious images of Toni, believed to have experienced domestic violence at the hands of her husband, who allegedly contributed to her demise. The Liberian National Police (LNP) quickly launched an investigation into the matter.

From the autopsy report and forensic examinations, the LNP on April 2, 2026, charged Mr Sam Jackson in connection with Toni’s death. The charges include: manslaughter, negligent homicide, aggravated assault, and endangerment of another person.

Defendant Jackson was processed for the court and subsequently remanded to the Monrovia Central Prison. He was released on bail on April 6, 2026, after posting a $20,000 bond. Upon his release, the defendant was granted an interview by Spoon TV outside the South Beach (Monrovia Central Prison) gate.

In light of this, Anthony Wepee Sarpong posted a video clip on Fries FM Facebook group claiming that Sam Jackson has confirmed to killing his wife, Toni Jackson.

Verification

To verify this, the researcher closely watched the original livestream on Spoon TV. The video is a one-hour livestream programme, with the interview session of Mr Jackson from 43 mins to 45 minutes. We recorded the interaction and transcribed it.

Excerpts of the conversation are found below:

Journalist: Mr Jackson, you are released today. How do you feel?

Sam Jackson: I’m still down, but this is not about me getting freedom. This is about a young woman whose body is still in the mortuary, and there are no plans for final rites for her. So I’m not here to gloat about my freedom.

I’m not here to basically express any outrage or anything of that nature. All I want to do is be able to breathe my way, and I’m going to give her a faithful send-off. Everything else is secondary.

I’m not going to talk about what happened to me and what didn’t happen to me, injustices and all of that, because right now…

Journalist: You think injustice is happening?

Sam Jackson: No, I’m saying injustice has been done to my wife. The fact that this injustice presupposes that this woman came here for love, to Liberia, and she met death at the hands of her husband.

I mean, what can you say about that? A woman who came for love and found this; it is hers. It is not about me. But all I want to do is basically express thanks and appreciation to my friends and my family, to my friends and my family all around the world.

I want you to beat your chest, knowing very well that I did nothing, I participated in nothing, and this woman met her demise the way that God wanted her to meet her demise. We continue to support our love for this woman and her family.

From the conversation, we noticed that the portion of the clip uploaded by the claimant showed the defendant using the word ‘presupposes,’ which the Oxford Dictionary defines as the act of assuming something occurred without proof yet. It says that Sam Jackson was referring to the report circulating in the public pertaining to his wife’s death.

At the end of his statement, Jackson admonished his family and friends to keep their faith in him, believing that he is innocent of the crimes he has been charged with.

Conclusion

Based on our findings, Sam Jackson didn’t confirm killing his wife, Toni Jackson, as claimed. So, the claim is misleading.
