Verdict: Misleading! Our findings show the video has been on the internet since Dec. 7, 2024, and did not occur in Osun State, Nigeria, as claimed.

A Facebook user, Solomon Dalung Foundation for National Unity, shared a video claiming to show a confrontation between Osun State voters and military officers.
The video (archived here), shared days after the state’s gubernatorial election, depicted a confrontation between civilians and service personnel.
The post’s caption read, “Osun Election- a litmus test for the 2027 Presidential Election. When a populace resolves to oppose corruption, deprivation, injustice, and to defend its democratic prerogatives, neither weaponising can ultimately suppress their voices.”
As of Aug. 19, 2026, the post had generated 1,800 likes, 618 comments, and 904 shares. The video further attracted mixed reactions among other Facebook users.
Uduma Israel Ogbu, who believed the claim, wrote, “The Osun people have become like a Messiah. Nigerians are learning.”
Another user, Ellah Timothy, said, “Very good. The people are resolute.”
However, Mufutahu Lawal described the video as misinformation. He wrote: “Stop the misinformation. This video is from Ghana during the 2024 presidential election. This happened in Obusi in the Ashanti region. Not Osun State.”
The conflicting comment dismissing the claim’s authenticity prompted DUBAWA to investigate the video.
Verification
We broke the video into keyframes and conducted reverse image searches.
The results traced the video to an earlier publication by GhanaWeb on Dec. 7, 2024, with the headline, “Watch as gun-wielding soldiers fight NDC executive for denying them access to polling centre in Obuasi.”
The report identified the man confronting the soldiers as Alhaji Yahaya Al-Haqq, the Obuasi East Communications Officer for the National Democratic Congress (NDC). He was raising his voice at two military officers while trying to stop them from proceeding to the polling station during the Ghana presidential election.
DUBAWA also found similar footage published by ChannelOne TV on Dec. 7, 2024.
“Obuasi East NDC Constituency Communications Officer clashes with military personnel over access to a polling station.” ChannelOne TV’s headline reads.
The Republic Online platform also reported the same incident with the caption “Elections 2024: Viral video captures clash between soldiers and civilians at Obuasi East.”

Conclusion
Our findings show that the video in question had been online since Dec. 7, 2024. It was shot during Ghana’s presidential election and has been repurposed to depict the Osun State election. The claim is misleading.
