On Tuesday, August 4, 2026, a Facebook page, Hausaland Magazine, claimed that the Chairman of Bungudu Local Government Area of Zamfara State had been killed.
The post stated: “Fulani terrorist Militia have killed the chairman of Bungudu LG Zamfara. Thank you, Tinubu.”
The claim surfaced barely days after armed bandits attacked the residence of the Chairperson of Bungudu Local Government Area, Nura Abdullahi, killing four security personnel and abducting the council chairman alongside two other persons.
The post (archived here) attracted 195 likes, 104 comments, and 47 shares, with several Facebook users believing the claim.
For instance, Modibbo Mohammed Mustapha commented, “Fantastic. Kuddos.”
Another user, Ekezie Chidi, wrote, “Nawa, a whole LG chairman, that means ordinary us are finished.”
Similarly, Ibuyo Terkaa stated, “The man once said the insecurity is stable and those guys used him as an example.”
Seeing that many users had accepted the claim as factual despite the lack of supporting evidence, and given its security implications, DUBAWA verified its authenticity.
Verification
DUBAWA searched for credible media reports on the claim that the Chairperson of Bungudu Local Government Area, Nura Abdullahi, had been killed but found none.
Instead, PREMIUM TIMES reported on Aug. 4, 2026, that Bello Abdullahi, the elder brother of the abducted chairman, died from gunshot wounds he sustained during the attack on the chairperson’s residence.
According to the report, suspected bandits invaded the chairman’s residence in Bungudu town on July 25, 2026, killing four security personnel before abducting the chairman alongside two other residents.
Similarly, Blueprint newspaper, on Aug. 5, 2026, published a report titled, “Abducted LG Chairman’s Brother Dies from Gunshot Wounds in Zamfara,” corroborating that it was the chairperson’s elder brother, and not the chairperson himself, who died from injuries sustained during the attack.
Importantly, both reports stated that the Bungudu Local Government chairperson remained in captivity, directly contradicting the Facebook claim that he had been killed.
To independently verify the claim, DUBAWA contacted the Zamfara State Police Command. However, calls placed to the two mobile telephone numbers of the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Yazid Abubakar, were unsuccessful as both lines were unreachable at the time of filing this report.
DUBAWA also reviewed posts on the official Facebook page of the Zamfara State Police Command but found no statement confirming that the abducted chairman had been killed.
Similarly, DUBAWA found no official statement from the Zamfara State Government, the Nigeria Police Force, or any other security agency confirming the chairperson’s death.
Conclusion
The claim that the Chairperson of Bungudu Local Government Area, Nura Abdullahi, has been killed is false. Although available evidence shows that he was abducted by suspected bandits on July 25, 2026, there is no credible report confirming his death.
