Old video of flood cutting off Gombe-Adamawa Road, recirculated 

Claim: A TikTok user claims a flood has swept off a major road linking Gombe and Adamawa states.

Verdict: Misleading. Although a flood did once leave travellers stranded after sweeping off a major road connecting Gombe to Adamawa, this event did not occur in 2025. The TikTok narrative is, therefore, misleading.

The rainy season is known to bring peculiar hazards. Among them is flooding, which could include disease outbreaks, property damage, and sometimes, loss of lives.

Yakubu Rasha, a TikTok user, recently posted a 15-second video claiming that a flash flood had washed off a major road linking Gombe and Adamawa state in Nigeria. The footage showed a road split by flowing water, with stranded travellers calling for help. 

Speaking in Hausa from behind the camera, one traveller said, “People on TikTok should pray for us. We cannot cross as heavy rain has destroyed the road linking Gombe to Adamawa.”

So far, 530 users who believed the situation shared the video, 1,624 liked it, and 96 people archived it. 

Apart from Adamawa, the road in question also leads to Taraba and serves the needs of both private and commercial users daily. DUBAWA conducted this fact-check due to the claim’s viral nature and possible effect on travellers’ route choice.

Verification

We conducted a keyword search on Google, which led to a September 2024 report by Trust TV featuring a similar video.

In addition to the information from the viral video, Trust TV’s reporter explained that a culvert was being constructed at the spot before the downpour. However, the flood washed away the construction and other manageable road parts.

Other Facebook users, besides Trust TV, shared multiple pictures and videos, including the one under verification. These posts were made when Trust TV published its report with the same narrative. Some of these Facebook posts can be seen here, here, and here. 

Conclusion

While a flood truly left travellers stranded after sweeping off a major road connecting Gombe to Adamawa state, that incident occurred in September 2024, not in 2025 as claimed. The video is misleading.
