Antisapa Blog on Facebook posted a picture (archived) of British professional boxer Anthony Joshua mourning over the bodies of his friends. The post suggested he is receiving their remains following a tragic accident.
The claim emerged after Joshua was involved in a car accident on Dec. 29, 2025, on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway in Nigeria, which resulted in the death of two of his close associates.
Joshua sustained minor injuries in the incident that killed his friends, Sina Ghami and Latif Ayodele.
The comment section of this post was filled with people pouring condolence messages for the victim’s family and Joshua, while some doubted if the image was real.
One such doubting comment was made by Chukwidili Joshua, who queried, “Chai this life ehn, but are you sure this picture is not AI?”
The claim, which has now gone viral, has garnered 2,300 likes, 93 comments, and 13 shares since it was posted on January 3, 2026.

The post’s virality, the personalities involved, and DUBAWA’s mission to uphold the truth prompted DUBAWA to verify this claim.
Verification
We conducted a reverse image search to see if the event had been reported by credible media organisations, but found nothing.
Using Truthscan, a tool that helps detect AI-generated images, the tool revealed that the image was fake and had high confidence in its result. In the detailed reasoning mentioned by the tool, “The image exhibits multiple indicators of AI generation. The skin texture appears unnaturally smooth, and the lighting on the faces of the individual is inconsistent with natural outdoor lighting conditions.”

Additionally, the edges of clothing and objects are very sharp. The bandage around the head also suggests AI generation.
The observations of “extremely sharp” edges and an unusual “bandage around the head” are common indicators of an AI-generated image. These result from the way current generative models process details and sometimes struggle with complex real-world logic or specific, intricate details.
For cross-checking, we reran the image through another image-detection tool, Undetectable AI, which revealed that the image is 1% real and 99% AI-generated.

Conclusion
The image circulating on Facebook, purportedly showing Anthony Joshua mourning over his friends, is AI-generated. Evidence from multiple AI detection tools confirms that the image was generated using AI and falsely presented as real.
