Claim: Several Facebook users claim that the parliament of Greenland has introduced legislation to ban Trump from its territory for 100 years.

Verdict: False! No genuine media outlets confirmed the report. Also, DUBAWA traced the original content to a satirical page.
Full Text
Greenland, a sparsely populated territory ruled by Denmark, has been on the sidelines of international politics, but since the beginning of 2026, the country has made headlines as it is now at the very centre of it.
Recall that in 2019, Trump announced plans for the United States (US) to take over the territory, but his declaration drew little reaction. He also made such calls at the beginning of his current tenure in 2025.
But the US President is now more persistent in his call for control of the Arctic territory, arguing that it is essential to national security.
While world leaders have opposed this move, Trump recently threatened to impose tariffs on nations that do not go along with his ambition to annex the self-governing territory.
With this move, the US has become one of the world’s powers, alongside China and Russia, tussling over the Arctic region as the climate crisis reshapes its geography.
Amid these, a Facebook page, Tech Times, on Jan. 16, 2025, claimed (archived here) that the Greenland parliament has introduced legislation to ban Trump from entering its territory.
“….The political conflict over the Arctic has reached a bizarre and symbolic climax as Greenland’s parliament, the Inatsisartut, introduced unprecedented legislation targeting the U.S. President. In a unanimous show of defiance, lawmakers proposed a bill declaring Donald Trump and “all his descendants for 100 generations” as personae non gratae on the island”, part of the post read.
There are variations of this claim on X and Facebook. The first variant is that Greenland banned Trump for 100 years, while another claims the country banned Trump and his descendants for up to 100 generations from accessing the territory. These can be found here and here.
DUBAWA observed that some users in the comment section believe the report and urged other countries’ parliaments to replicate the same move and protect their territories against US control.
A user, Phil Moss, quipped, “Can we do this for Canada too? Also, I’m pretty sure Mexico is in, too.”
@CarolHauge said, “That is how you stand up to the orange guy”.
David Michael said, “Very impressive”.
Given the prominence of this topic in international relations and the potential to mislead social media users, DUBAWA fact-checked the claim.
Verification
At the centre of international politics is Trump’s proposal to acquire Greenland; hence, reports of such a proposal by the Greenland Parliament would have flooded major global and local news media.
However, we found no news reports of the Greenland parliament proposing or passing such legislation.
DUBAWA observed that the claim had been replicated on some social media pages without any credible source.
We traced the origin to a page on X, @Halfwaypost, a satire account properly labelled as such. However, given how posts appear on X pages, some viewers don’t bother checking the details of the X account and just run with the narrative.
While it is true that the people of Greenland have objected to Trump’s plan, and the Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen recently announced that the island would not be pressured over the tariff threats, there are no reports of a legislative ban.
Conclusion
There is no evidence to support the claim that Greenland has passed legislation to ban President Trump from accessing its territory for 100 years.
