A claim that Nigerian footballer Victor Osimhen proposed marriage to Nollywood actress Regina Daniels is making the rounds on Facebook. Several intimate images from the “proposal scene” are also circulating among users, accompanied by congratulatory wishes.
Many users, like Okonkwo Chinenye, believed this narrative to be true. Aside from liking posts where the claim has appeared, they have also shared it on their private account with the caption,
“Congratulations to Our Beautiful Regina as she said yes again to the love of her life. Super Eagles Striker Victor Osimhen proposed to actress Regina Daniels right at the stadium after losing the semi-final match against Morocco. Go and get your dancing shoes. Congratulations to Regina once again.”
Due to the virality of this claim and the personalities involved, DUBAWA decided to set the record straight with this fact check.
Verification
Osimhen and Regina are both famous, so if there were any romantic relationship between them, to the point of leading to a proposal, this would have been reported by major national media platforms by now. On the contrary, we did not find any news of this nature.
We subjected six of these viral images to verification using Artificial Intelligence (AI) detection tools, and the results revealed them to contain significant elements of AI. Independent results from Sightengine and Brandwell showed varying degrees of manipulation, ranging from 60 to 94 per cent AI as their sources.
Conclusion
The claim is false. The circulating images of Osimhen proposing to Regina are AI-generated.
