Claim: Senator Crayton Duncan says the government of Liberia is not subsidising schools in the 2026 national budget.
Verdict: Misleading. The government has budgeted about $1,168,000 in this year’s budget to subsidise many schools.
Full Text
Since County Senator Crayton Duncan has stated that the education system in Liberia is going backwards, and those holding national positions do not care.
According to the one-time supporter of the former ruling Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) government, the 2026 one billion national budget’s only concern is to pay government employees and take care of the government’s day-to-day affairs.
He said when all of those are taken care of, nothing is left for the people of Liberia, and “So you don’t even subsidise schools,” leaving private schools to charge exorbitantly.
The Sinoe County lawmaker can be heard at 1:52:46 to 1:52:59 of a morning show he sat on in Monrovia.
Given that education is one of the pillars of President Joseph Boakai’s ARREST agenda, DUBAWA verified Senator Duncan’s claim.
Verification
DUBAWA reviewed the approved 2026 national budget, published by the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning (MFDP), and found that the government has budgeted about $1,168,000 for many schools.
From this amount, the African Methodist Episcopal University (AMEU) is set to receive about $50,000, while $20,000 is budgeted for the Liberia Christian Evangelical School.
The Omega Christian Academy Inc. and the National Islamic Girls Academy are on the list, both receiving $49,000.
Also on the list is the Confidence School System, with a $15,500 budget, among many others.
