A member of the media wing of the opposition Movement for Progressive Change says farmers across Liberia are not being empowered.
According to Michael Lawrence, farmers need to be capacitated by providing free seedlings to produce the food Liberia eats.
He said the farmers in Liberia are crying out daily for help, while “Ecuador is the highest exporter of cassava in the world.”
Lawrence made the claim at the15:04 of the Prime Morning Rush, where he appeared as a guest.
To ensure truth in the information ecosystem, DUBAWA verified it.
Verification
DUBAWA conducted multiple online research studies and found that Thailand is the world’s leading cassava exporter.
The World Population Review’s Cassava Production by Country 2026 report states, “Thailand is the world’s largest exporter of cassava,” accounting for roughly 60-65 per cent of total world exports.
Also, as of 2024, according to the World Integrated Trade Solution (WITS), a data source of the World Bank and other organisations, Thailand is the world’s top cassava exporter, with Ecuador nowhere on the list of top exporters.
Conclusion
Michael Lawrence’s claim, therefore, that Ecuador is the world’s leading exporter of cassava is false.
