Claim: A post by Born 2 Blog claimed that WAEC cancelled the 2025 WASSCE result of K-School student Unpha Lamin Koroma, who emerged as the overall best candidate, after initially releasing his result a week late.

Verdict: Misleading! While the candidate’s result was cancelled due to examination malpractice, WAEC has not declared any student as the overall best performer for the 2025 WASSCE.

A viral claim published by the Facebook page Born 2 Blog alleged that the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) cancelled the result of Unpha Lamin Koroma, a student of K-School, after his grades placed him above all other candidates in the 2025 WASSCE. The post has since gained traction on social media. A similar claim can also be seen here.
The post further suggested that WAEC had engaged in unfair treatment and reported that legal action was being considered against the examination body. The claim sparked intense debate online, with mixed reactions from social media users. While some accused WAEC of unfair treatment and victimisation, others questioned the credibility of the claim, noting that WAEC does not usually announce “overall best” candidates immediately after releasing results.

As part of efforts to deepen truth in public discourse, DUBAWA decided to verify whether the student’s results had indeed been cancelled and whether he had truly been adjudged the best WAEC student.
Verification
To verify the claim, DUBAWA contacted WAEC’s Public Affairs Officer, Mr Sallieu M. Kamara, who provided a detailed clarification.
WAEC confirmed that the candidate was found guilty of examination malpractice, after which the Sierra Leone Examinations Committee (SLEC) reviewed the case and decided that the candidate’s entire result was cancelled.
According to WAEC:
“Unfortunately, the provisional result of the candidate, prior to the implementation of the decision of SLEC, was inadvertently uploaded to the WAEC result-checking portal.”
WAEC further explained that:
“The provisional result of the candidate (released in error) has been pulled down, and the correct one uploaded. We regret the error.”
This clarification shows that the issue was not a sudden or arbitrary cancellation, but the execution of a disciplinary decision that had already been taken.
Addressing claims that the candidate was the overall best performer, WAEC stated that:
“The office is yet to make any official statement on the performance of candidates for the WASSCE SC 2025 results since it was released. This is because there are laid down procedures to be followed before such pronouncements are made.”
WAEC added that once the process is completed, the information will be officially communicated to the public.
Conclusion
The claim that WAEC cancelled the result of a K-School student who emerged as the overall best candidate in the 2025 WASSCE is misleading. Findings show that the candidate’s result was cancelled following confirmed examination malpractice, and the brief appearance of a provisional result was due to an administrative error.
WAEC has also not officially declared any overall best-performing candidate for the 2025 WASSCE.
