Posts linked to the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its supporters continue to circulate on Facebook and other social media platforms, especially around stories concerning the detention, trial, or possible release of leader Nnamdi Kanu. Time and again DUBAWA has verified and debunked several of these claims, yet similar narratives keep reappearing within the same circles of users. A Facebook user, @Miracle blogTv, shared a video allegedly depicting Plateau State governor Caleb Mutfwang issuing an apology to Biafrans for past hostilities. The governor in the video added that the Nigerian government instigated their involvement.
The 26- second video (archived here) showed the governor saying, “Biafrans, please forgive us. We were deceived by the Nigerian government to fight against you. Please let’s keep the past behind and unite again as one. We are very sorry.”
The post’s caption reads, “There is a saying that pregnancy cannot be hidden and darkness cannot defeat light. The truth must surely prevail, and the Igbos have been vindicated. It is now very clear that the Igbos are being cheated, killed, molested, and maltreated by the zoo. All thanks to God for revealing everything. Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and Mazi Simon Ekpa must surely be vindicated. Victory is assured.”
As of Aug. 4, 2026, the video had amassed over 42,000 likes, 4,000 comments, 8,000 shares and 2 million views.
DUBAWA checked the comments on the post to see what users thought.
One user, @Omo Igbo, for instance, said, “Who told you we have accepted? Please be careful. Only Nnamdi Kanu can accept anything from anybody.”
@Emmanuel Okon asked, “Is all that you are saying coming from your heart? Tell the same federal government to release Nnamdi Kanu before other Igbos, and I will agree.”
@Opeyemi Opwoluwa responded, “I strongly disagree with you for accepting their apology while Nnamdi Kanu is still in their prison.”
From DUBAWA’s review of the comments, only a few users questioned the claim, while the majority appeared to believe it.

DUBAWA decided to verify the claim due to its high engagement and its potential to mislead the public on a sensitive issue involving the Plateau State governor.
Verification
DUBAWA searched keywords from the Facebook claim to determine whether the Plateau State governor made the apology shown in the video. The search led to a report by TheCable, which showed that Mutfwang made the remarks during a meeting with Igbo leaders from Plateau State’s 17 local government areas at the Government House in Jos.
During the meeting, the governor apologised to the Igbo community for the role Plateau people played during the Nigerian Civil War. He said Plateau people had been deceived into fighting the war and asked the Igbo community to forgive them. He also urged both sides to put the past behind them, rebuild trust, and work together.
The governor described the Igbo community as a major contributor to Plateau State’s economy and encouraged them to continue their investments in the state.

We did not, however, find any report stating that the governor apologised to Biafrans or made the specific remarks contained in the video shared by the Facebook user.
DUBAWA analysed the video using Hive.ai, an AI-detection tool, which indicated an 81.6% probability that the content is AI-generated.

We further examined the video with Zhuque AI Detection Assistant. The tool scored it at 86.01%, a result suggesting a strong possibility of AI-generated or altered content.

The results obtained from our analysis further prove that the governor did not make such an apology.
Conclusion
The claim that Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang apologised to Biafrans is misleading. While the governor apologised to the Igbo community during a meeting with Igbo leaders in Plateau State, there is no evidence that he apologised to Biafrans or made the remarks attributed to him in the viral video. Our analysis also found that the video is AI-generated and does not depict a real statement by the governor.
