Claim: A Facebook user alleged that 70 members of Israel’s 120 parliament members have indicated support for Biafra and Nnamdi Kanu’s release.

Verdict: False. There is no evidence that 70 members of Israel’s parliament supported Biafra or called for the release of Nnamdi Kanu. Checks of reports from Israeli and Nigerian media, as well as a review of materials from the Knesset, show no record of such a discussion or decision.

Social media has become a major platform for groups and movements to promote their agendas and shape public perception. In many cases, these narratives circulate without verification and spread misinformation. The Independent People of Biafra remain active online, sharing various narratives in support of their cause. However, DUBAWA has debunked several claims related to them here, here, and here.
A Facebook user stated in a video (archived here) that 70 members out of Israel’s 120 parliament members indicated support for Biafran freedom and the release of Nnamdi Kanu.
The claimant in the 30-second clip said, “Hello, my people, earlier last week, I told you that the Israeli parliament is going to hold a Biafran session. It has been reported that over 70 members of parliament, out of 120, have supported Biafran freedom. In no time, they will be coming out with better news for the possibility of Biafran freedom.”
As of Mar. 12, 2026, the post had generated 507 likes, 36 comments, 91 shares, and over 2,000 views.
We checked the comments to know what other respondents thought about the claim.
@Okechukwu Chima wrote, “Yes, up Biafra. Nigeria, free Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and Biafra now.
@Ifeco Ezegbu replied, “Congratulations. Biafra nation for life, nothing else. Thanks.”
Everyone else in the comments seemed to agree with the claim, except @Akile Bende, who said, “Lies, lies, lies.”
The same claim was also shared by other Facebook users here, here, and here.
The claim appeared suspicious given the unlikelihood of such external involvement in Nigeria’s politics. This prompted DUBAWA to investigate the claim.
Verification
Using keywords from the claim, we searched for possible reports from news platforms such as The Times of Israel and The Jerusalem Post, where any decision from the Israeli parliament would likely appear. However, we found no report of such an update from the parliament.
DUBAWA also confirmed that the Knesset, Israel’s national parliament, has 120 members, which aligns with the number referenced in the claim. Despite this, we found no evidence that the parliament held a session or made any decision regarding Biafra.
We attempted to review the Knesset calendar of Israel’s national parliament for recent agenda items mentioning Biafra, but the website was temporarily unavailable.
A keyword search on the Knesset’s YouTube page also produced no results related to the alleged discussion. The channel only contains clips on topics that concern Israel’s politics, economy, security, development, and health.
Lastly, we checked Nigerian news platforms but found no reports indicating that the Israeli parliament participated in discussions about Biafra or advocated for the release of Nnamdi Kanu.
Conclusion
There is no evidence to confirm Israel’s involvement in Nigeria’s politics or any decision to intervene in support of Biafra’s “freedom.” While the Israeli parliament consists of 120 members, we found no record of 70 lawmakers supporting Biafra or calling for the release of Nnamdi Kanu. The claim is, therefore, false.
