Claim: A Facebook user shared a video showing two men in a brawl alleging they are Igbo men fighting over control of drug territory in India.
Verdict: Misleading! Evidence from various media reports in May shows that the video is unrelated to any drug-related case in India. The incident occurred in the Dominican Republic. Additionally, there is no evidence that the men involved are Nigerians.

A Facebook user Aare Saka, shared a video showing two men fighting with cutlasses purported to be Igbos fighting over control of a drug territory in India.
The caption of the video reads, “Clement Okafor and Kenneth Chukwudi, using cutlass to chop themselves into pieces over control of drug territory in India. Imagine the way Okafor picked up his chopped-off wrist!”
The video shows two men fiercely fighting with cutlasses at a filling station along the road. After the fight, one of the men went to pick up what appeared to be his hand, which seemed to have been cut off during the brawl.

Recently, tribal sentiments and falsehood have been the subject of online controversies. This necessitated DUBAWA to verify the claim.
Verification
DUBAWA subjected the video’s keyframes to a Google Reverse Image Search, and we discovered various reports on the video.
One such report was written in Spanish by LA VERDAD on May 15, 2024, in translation, “Friends fight with machetes over a woman; one loses his hand (Video)” alongside a screenshot of the claimant video.
According to the report, the incident happened in the Dominican Republic. The incident that happened in front of a gas station was between two friends who were fighting for a woman. The report further explained that one of the men involved in the brawl lost one of his limbs and was rushed to the hospital while the other escaped the scene on a motorcycle.
On the same day, the New York Post reported the same story.
Another media outlet, PAGINA CENTRAL reported the incident on May 16, 2024, stating that the fight was between one Nelvin Felix and Kelvin Melquiades Trinidad in the streets of the municipality of Consuelo, a province of San Pedro de Macorís in the Dominican Republic.

Conclusion
DUBAWA’s findings show that the video is misleading. The incident was a brawl between two men in the Dominican Republic over a woman, not for control of a drug territory in India as claimed.
