Full Text

Pope Francis was the head of the Catholic Church and the sovereign of the Vatican City State from March 13, 2013, until his passing in 2025. He was the first Jesuit pope, the first Latin American pope, and the first born or raised outside Europe since the 8th-century Syrian pope Gregory III.

Santa Trump (@lovetocook12345) on X posted a video of the Late Pope in a wheelchair waving. He then circles a side to show a third hand on the pope’s lap. The video was captioned, “Posted on the Vatican website. Can anyone explain why he has three hands? Also, no one is pushing him towards the end?”

While some viewers accepted the claim, others doubted the authenticity of the video.

@Garebear588 wrote, “Can somebody verify for me that this is actually what they show on TV?”.

Another user, @earth_matter31, replied, “He got three hands. They don’t show that on TV.”

The Raw Vegan (@RwVgnAdvice) replied, “Obviously fake.” Another user,Master Mattamous(@MMattamous), asked, “Was it actually posted on the Vatican website? Or are you just making up stories so people will like you more online?”

A Google Reverse Image Search of screenshots from the video reveals that it has been circulated on multiple Facebook pages, here and here, on TikTok, and on Instagram

The video, which has gone viral on X, has garnered 3,100,000 views, 2,000 likes, 542 reposts, and 172 comments since it appeared on September 9, 2025.

Due to the conflicting comments and the virality of the post, DUBAWA decided to verify it

Verification

DUBAWA conducted a keyword search to verify whether there have been any reports from credible media organisations, but did not see anything.

We then conducted a Google reverse image search to confirm the video’s existence. The search led to a YouTube page from New York Post with the footage of Pope Francis during the final Easter blessing.

In the video, we noticed the Pope had two visible hands, which he waved during the video. Waving his hands shows that the video circulating was manipulated.

We analysed the video using Attestiv Video, an AI-powered deepfake detector, to confirm our doubts.

The analysis revealed a high probability of these indicators, meaning that the content has been altered.

We then proceeded to use Deepware, another AI tool for checking inconsistencies in videos. This tool revealed that parts of the video had AI tendencies.

Conclusion

DUBAWA’s findings revealed that the viral video is AI-generated. The original video obtained in the New York Post showed the Pope with two hands.
