Artificial Intelligence (AI) may have started simple and easy to detect, but today, many social media users find themselves caught in a cycle of believing content that isn’t real. This has made it necessary for fact-checkers to debunk claims driven by false narratives amplified by AI. However, as this continues, AI is also evolving and becoming more advanced and harder to spot. Videos, images, and audio make it increasingly difficult to distinguish between what is real and what is not.
On April 1, 2025, at around 11:30 p.m., a Facebook user, @GoodnessVlog, posted a 10-second video with the caption, “This is amazing.”
In the video, a car appears to be falling off a broken bridge but suddenly drives upward, escaping the fall, and joins a group of people standing at the other end. The scene seems highly unrealistic and resembles something from a movie.
Also, a voice can be heard in the background saying, “My people, the driver is too much. Look at this bridge that has collapsed, but…” and it stops there.
Despite seemingly snappy and insignificant content, the video garnered significant engagement. As of April 11, 2025, it had accumulated 22,000 likes, 761 comments, and 3,000,000 views. The comments were particularly intriguing, with some viewers speculating that the video was AI-generated, while others firmly believed it was genuine.
For example, @Priscapassy, adding a religious perspective, commented, “It’s not the driver; God is working.” Similarly, @Beatrice Oye replied, “This is God. It is beyond human imagination.”
Echoing this sentiment, @AnneOlaka remarked, “See how you are giving God’s glory to the driver. Had God looked away, and something happened, you would have been crying and asking God why.”
On the other hand, @Ndubuisi Piety, who doubted the clip’s authenticity, responded angrily: “The people shouting ‘God is working’ are funnier than the poster. If you hadn’t drunk too much garri, you’d have noticed AI was at work here. Tell me, how did the driver get there? And secondly, which car tyre moves without working?” he questioned.
Considering the nature of the video and the engagement generated, DUBAWA decided to investigate.
Verification
Since the video depicted a fabricated and unrealistic activity, we used Deepware.ai to check for possible alterations. However, the results were inconclusive, as the tool could not assess the footage without a detectable face.
Results from Deepware.ai
We proceeded to analyse the footage using Hive.ai, an AI detection tool. This time, the results confirmed that the video was indeed fabricated.
DUBAWA also employed Invid’s forensic filter feature to verify the video’s authenticity. The tool’s enhancers were used to closely examine a screenshot from the footage for signs of forgery, and the analysis revealed a high level of unrealistic elements, suggesting possible manipulation.
Conclusion
DUBAWA’s analysis found that the video claiming to show a car escaping from a collapsing bridge was digitally manipulated. Therefore, the claim is false.
