Claim: A Facebook user shared a post and claimed that Yoruba people are dissatisfied with President Tinubu’s government and are criticising his rule.
Verdict: Misleading. Although some citizens in the country who are Yorubas protested and criticised the president because of an unfavourable economy, the incident is not recent.

A Facebook user, Justice Mayor Backup, posted a video (archived here) of protesters, and claimed that Yoruba people are tired of President Bola Tinubu’s government and are now voicing their dissatisfaction.
Speaking in Pidgin English, a man in the video says, “Yoruba people don cry out o, say dem don tired for Tinubu government, say hunger everywhere.” Meaning, Yoruba people are crying that they are tired of President Tinubu’s government.
Another section of the video shows a woman speaking in Yoruba and saying, “Tinubu ole,” which translates to “Tinubu is a thief.”

As of Sept. 13, 2026, the post had garnered more than 1,400 shares, 3,300 likes and 338 comments.
The comments reflected mixed reactions: some users mocked the claim, others expressed anger toward Tinubu’s government, and some warned against tribalism while urging Nigerians to vote wisely in 2027.
Felicia Briggs said, “Hahaha, they are yet to cry this early morning; that is your brother, so don’t worry, Umumu.”
Kalesco Timmy commented, “Continue throwing people to the lagoon. Tribalism won’t help the country; just vote wisely.”
Usama Dan Niger wrote, “Una never see anything until you re-elect him for the second term. I hope that your eyes don’t open now.”
Hillary Adah said, “Make una speak for his evil government, Tinubu is wicked and devilish.”
To prevent false narratives from spreading amidst political party preparations for upcoming general elections, DUBAWA decided to verify the post.
Verification
DUBAWA subjected screenshots from the Facebook post to a Google Reverse Image Search to determine the video’s origin and date.
The search revealed that the video predates the Sept. 7, 2026 Facebook post and was not recorded as a recent reaction by Yoruba people to the Tinubu administration.
Further searches showed that Pulse Nigeria had previously published the video in 2024. Oriental Times had also posted it in 2024 with the caption, “Hungry And Angry Nigerians Hit The Street.” Both posts showed Nigerians protesting the economic hardship witnessed in the country and the Tinubu-led administration responsible for it.
In a similar vein, CEO Africa shared the video and relayed how an unnamed woman, alongside Osun residents, cursed the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu. The post was shared three years ago.
Conclusion
The video is misleading. Although it shows the Nigerian public criticising Tinubu’s administration for an unfavourable economy, the event is not recent.
