A Facebook user, Sylverster Tavez Nah, claimed that the All Liberian Party was the first registered political party to build its headquarters.
The post generated 38 likes and 43 comments. Some of the commenters, including J. Roosevelt Wahdah Kpoto, Siaka Siakason Sherif, and Reeves Reeves, differed with the claim, referencing the True Whig Party and the National Patriotic Party as parties that have built their own headquarters.
DUBAWA decided to conduct a fact-check on the claim.
Verification
Our researcher first contacted the claimant to provide evidence to support his claim, but he refused to respond to the numerous inquiries until the publication deadline.
The researcher further contacted an Executive member of the True Whig Party, Rev. Adolphus Capehart, who confirmed that the Edward J. Roye Building on Ashmun Street, in Monrovia, was constructed as the party’s headquarters in 1964.
However, media reports from credible institutions, including AllAfrica and Liberian TV Network, have confirmed that the Edward J. Roye Building on Ashmun Street, Monrovia, was constructed as the headquarters of the True Whig Party.
Meanwhile, there is no record or reference to show that any other political party has constructed its party headquarters.
Conclusion
The claim made is false, based on corresponding reports from the True Whig Party’s executive and credible media institutions.
