Claim: An Instagram user claims that Bill Gates has urged the digitalisation of Identification for Babies in Kenya.

Verdict: MISLEADING! The clips used in the video are unrelated to each other and were taken from different events in 2015 and 2023. There is also no credible news report to confirm the claim.

Billionaire Microsoft co-founder and philanthropist Bill Gates has frequently appeared at the centre of medical and technological misinformation, especially in Africa. Over the years, false claims have linked him to population control, vaccine harm and others, many of which have been widely debunked.
Recently, an Instagram user @digitalproductsuk posted a video alleging that Bill Gates has called for the digitalisation of identification for babies in Kenya. The video, divided into three parts, mentions that babies will now have digital IDs and receive them even before they leave the hospital.
In the second part of the video, Bill Gates was seen speaking about the implants. “We’re taking things that are genetically modified organisms, and we’re injecting them in little kids’ arms, we just shoot them right into the vein,” he said.
The last clip showed the president of Kenya, William Ruto, discussing the country’s digital ID program at an event.
The claim had garnered a total of 26,200 likes, 6,473 comments, 4,802 reposts, and 85,200 shares since December 23, 2025.
@cmentzing in the comments, disapproving of the said move, wrote, “Anything Bill Gates is pushing is bad news for humanity.”
Another user, @i_am_mstparker01, noted, “Why is it Africa that people test their experiments? Why not Europe?”
The comments on the page, the personalities involved, and the engagement the post attracted made DUBAWA verify the claim.
Verification
We noticed that there were three different clips, and it might be a cheap fake (cut-and-join) to create a narrative. We decided to do a reverse image search on each video.
Using reverse image search, we traced the video of the broadcaster to her Instagram page on Nov. 1, 2023. This means the video was not manipulated, and the claim originated from her video.
The clip of Bill talking about injecting kids is from a 2015 interview where he was discussing the need for safety testing for genetically modified (GMO) crops. He was using the rigorous safety testing of vaccines as an analogy for how GMOs in food should be trialled, not advocating for injecting children with GMOs.
The second video of William Ruto speaking was traced back to Oct 30, 2023, where he spoke about the Maisha Namba. In the video, he mentioned that Iris fingerprints will be part of Kenya’s digital identification.
The video did not mention anything about Bill Gates or the claim that it will be implanted as chips for the babies.
We then conducted a keyword search to determine if there were any reports on the Digital Identification system in Kenya. We found a news report from 2023 about the new digital system called the Maisha Namba.
Maisha Namba is a unique personal identification number assigned to every Kenyan citizen, usually at birth, and retained throughout their lifetime. It serves multiple functions across a person’s life cycle, acting as a birth certificate number for newborns, a registration number for accessing government services such as education (NEMIS) and health insurance (NHIF), and later becoming the national ID number at the age of 18.
There is no evidence that this policy involves implants, microchips, forced tagging of babies or is being sponsored by Bill Gates, as claimed by the broadcaster.
We also did not find any credible report showing that Bill Gates has publicly urged or announced the digitalisation of identification for babies in Kenya.
Conclusion
The claim that Bill Gates urged the digitalisation of identification for babies in Kenya is misleading. Unrelated clips of him and President William Ruto were joined together to suggest implants or forced digital IDs for newborns.
