As people continue to share misinformation and disinformation across social media platforms, DUBAWA verified several public assertions shared during the last week.

Below are some of the major claims verified:

An Instagram user claimed that Manchester City received its punishment for the 114 charges presented against the English club. The claimant said the club will face a 20-point deduction each season for the next ten seasons, beginning in the 2027/28 season.

However, DUBAWA’s findings indicate that the Premier League has not yet sanctioned the club. The league also said that the hearing would remain private and confidential until the outcome could be legally published.

Niger State Governor, Umar Bago, recently claimed that a United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) report predicted that by 2027, there would be no male child in Grade 7/JSS 1 in Shiroro and Munya Local Government Areas of Niger State, because children had left school and gone into artisanal mining.

However, UNICEF, through its Communication Specialist, Samuel Kaalu, said it had not conducted or commissioned such a study.

DUBAWA also noted that the report Bago quoted was prepared by the Ministries of Education of Katsina, Zamfara and Niger states, and funded by UNICEF. But the views, interpretations and conclusions were those of the authors and do not necessarily reflect the official positions of UNICEF or the state ministries of education.

Meanwhile, the report contains no statement supporting the governor’s assertion that, by 2027, no male child would be in Grade 7/JSS1 because all male children were engaged in artisanal mining and had left school.

A Facebook user shared an image claiming that a woman was recently killed in Niger State for blasphemy.

Google Reverse Image Search confirmed that the image attached to the post showed Hauwa Mohammed Liman, an aid worker and midwife with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). She was abducted and executed by the jihadist militant sect, Boko Haram, in Borno State in October 2018.

We also traced the crowd image to a Facebook post shared on Sept. 25, 2025. The image was used to show a public lynching in Agbarfo, Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State over an alleged attempted child abduction.

Furthermore, Artificial Intelligence (AI) detection tools indicated that the image was manipulated using AI.

A Facebook post claimed that Coventry City Football Club sacked its head coach, Frank Lampard.

DUBAWA checked Coventry City’s official website for news about Lampard’s alleged dismissal but found no related report.

No reputable media outlet has reported that the club dismissed the head coach. Coventry City also still identifies Lampard as its head coach.

A Facebook user claimed that a mixture of Vaseline and fresh lemon can clear sunburn.

DUBAWA discovered that in the shared video, the spot on the woman’s face portrayed as sunburn appeared dark and uniform in texture and colour, unlike the uneven redness and inflammation typical of an actual sunburn.

Our research found no dermatological basis for the claimed remedy.

Experts also discourage using the remedy to treat sunburn.
