Two Facebook bloggers, Reporter Masami and Simon Peter, have removed an AI-generated video they posted after DUBAWA’s fact check.
In June 2025, DUBAWA came across a less than two-minute Facebook clip of a lion eating some of the meat sold at a grocery store after scaring off customers. Masami and other Facebook users, like Simon, claimed a CCTV camera caught the incident in the store in South Africa.
As of June 25, 2025, Simon’s post recorded 500 likes, 171 conflicting comments, and 17 shares. The same story was shared on other platforms, including YouTube.
After verification, we discovered no lion invaded a South African food store. Instead, the viral video was an AI-generated content taken from TikTok and captioned with misleading narratives.
Three weeks after DUBAWA’s publication, we revisited the links from both Masami and Simon’s posts and discovered they had deleted the videos, as seen in the screenshot below.
