Facebook's claim Man United agreed to sign Osimhen, not substantiated

Verdict: False. Osimhen has not formally announced the club to which he intends to transfer during the summer. He has only said he is “enjoying the moment” in Turkey. Manchester United has not officially announced its agreement to purchase a Nigerian international.

Manchester United needs a goal scorer after producing only 32 goals in their domestic games so far, with a larger goal tally (8) registered by the club’s attacking midfielder, Bruno Fernandes. The Portuguese have impressed greatly despite their side’s poor form this season and advancing a few paces from the relegation spots.

However, the Red Devils would seek to revamp their present squad, and purchasing a goal scorer would be a top priority for the club. It can feebly rely on its current forwards— Alejandro Garnacho and Rasmus Hojlund— who have only pooled a combined eight goals. 22-year-old Amad Diallo, who has had a remarkable performance this season with six goals, suffered an ankle injury in February and has been on the sidelines since then. Meanwhile, E36.5 million signee, Joshua Zirkzee, has netted only thrice for Manchester United since the club bought him ahead of the 2024/2025 season.

Amidst the technical consternation Man United is currently facing, a Facebook user, Man United News Today, claims Man United has agreed to sign Napoli loanee Victor Osimhen.

“Man United have finally agreed to sign Victor Osimhen from Napoli.” Part of his Facebook post read.

As of Monday, April 14, 2025, the post has earned 456 likes and one share.

Some Facebook users queried the post’s authenticity, while some simply believed it.

“Man Utd should scout for a better striker elsewhere and stop pursuing VO,” Sunday Makinde reacted.

“Is Man UTD aware of this?” Jude Ejior Adagwa queried.

“Things can only get better!’’ Andy Crowther hoped.

DUBAWA decided to verify the claim’s authenticity to prevent any form of misinformation.

Verification

DUBAWA conducted a Google keyword search to find any credible news outlet that reported the Facebook claim but did not find any. We also checked Man United’s website and discovered the club has not made any official statement concerning the alleged development.

In the latest announcement by Football Transfers about the Napoli loanee, the report stated that although Osimhen is heavily linked to the Premier League, Nigerian internationals only want to enjoy the present moment with the Turkish side club Galatasaray.

Football Transfers quoted Osimhen as saying, “Galatasaray will always be in my heart.”

“There are always rumours about me; I think about the present. I am enjoying this moment; the fans always support me. At the right time, the best decision for everyone will be made,” Osimhen told NTV.

Although Galatasaray has the choice to purchase the striker if they can pool €75 million to meet his release clause, his €11 million per year salary demand might be a much higher price for the Super Lig side to foot.

Moreover, Turkish football news outlet Haber Sarikirmizi reported on Sunday, April 13, 2025, that Osimhen could move to Barcelona (where he is predicted to replace Robert Lewandowski) or Seria A giants Juventus. But no formal decision has been made yet.

Conclusion

The claim is false. The Nigerian international has yet to make an official announcement about the club he will join during the summer, and Manchester United has also yet to make any official announcement.
