The race for Nigeria’s 2027 presidential election is gathering momentum, with political parties and their candidates positioning themselves ahead of the general elections.
The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is seeking another term in office with President Bola Tinubu as its presidential candidate and Vice President Kashim Shettima as his running mate. Meanwhile, former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi is contesting the presidency under the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), with former Kano State Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso as his running mate.
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar is also contesting the presidential election under the African Democratic Congress (ADC), alongside former Rivers State Governor and former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, as his running mate.
Against this backdrop, a Facebook page, Orange Comedy (archived link here), published a video on Aug. 17, 2026, claiming that popular Nigerian musician David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has endorsed Peter Obi for president ahead of the 2027 election.
In the video, a man speaking in Pidgin English claimed that Davido had not only endorsed Obi but had also urged his followers to vote for Obi and Kwankwaso in the 2027 election.
He said, “I hear say Davido, the ‘OBO’ himself, say he has endorsed Peter Obi. He no end am there o, he con still tell his followers make all of them vote Peter Obi and Kwankwaso for president 2027…”
As of Sept. 1, 2026, the post had attracted 287 likes, 15 comments and 55 shares, indicating that the claim had gained some traction among Facebook users.
Some users also expressed varying reactions in the comment section. Olufade Ade said, “But his followers are not that stupid not to have minds of their own,” while Oshomole Chris commented, “Good one, it is a welcome development.” Another user, Terry Evuahrehre, wrote, “Enemies of Nigeria, you will see what will happen, animal.”

Because of heightened political activity ahead of the 2027 general elections and the potential influence of celebrity endorsements on voters’ perceptions, DUBAWA fact-checked the claim.
Verification
To verify the claim, DUBAWA searched for credible reports and statements from Davido about his preferred presidential candidate ahead of the 2027 election.
The search led to Davido’s interview on News Central TV, which The PUNCH Newspapers also reported. During the interview, the musician was asked about political endorsements and his position on the 2027 election.
Contrary to the claim circulating on Facebook, Davido stated that he had not endorsed any presidential candidate and maintained that he had not seen anyone he was personally motivated to support.
Speaking about his political position, Davido said, “My uncle, immediately he won, came out to declare his support for Tinubu, but for me, I’m not propelled to support anybody. I personally haven’t seen anybody.”
Furthermore, DUBAWA found no credible evidence from Davido’s verified social media accounts, Facebook and X (formerly Twitter), or reputable media reports showing that he had publicly endorsed Peter Obi or called on his followers to vote for the Obi-Kwankwaso ticket.
Conclusion
The claim that popular musician Davido has endorsed Peter Obi for president in the 2027 presidential election is FALSE.
Although a video circulating on Facebook claims that Davido endorsed Obi and urged his followers to vote for him and Rabiu Kwankwaso, Davido said in a News Central TV interview that he had not been prompted to support any presidential candidate and had not seen anyone he personally wanted to support.
