Six countries have now qualified for the 2026 World Cup after the play-offs ended on Tuesday, March 31, 2026. These countries include Sweden, Turkey, the Czech Republic, Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Iraq.
Against that backdrop, an X user, @instablog9ja (archived here), claims that the Fรฉdรฉration Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) has awarded Nigeria a qualification spot in the global tournament.
โJust In: FIFA grants Nigeria a new qualification spot for the 2026 World Cupโฆโ part of the claimantโs post reads.
As of Wednesday, April 1, 2026, the claim has attracted 563,000 views, 1,200 comments, 572 retweets, 6,300 likes, and 150 bookmarks.
While some users expressed happiness at the news, others doubted its accuracy.
โThis is huge,โ @IseetruU wrote.
โBig chances. I hope they use it well this time,โ @RealNety commented.
โI donโt believe this,โ @Youngpappi disagreed.
Due to the high engagement the post attracted and the possibility of disinformation around the claim, DUBAWA decided to verify it.
Verification
DUBAWA checked FIFAโs website for the teams that have qualified for the 2026 World Cup and noticed Nigeria was not listed, meaning Nigeria did not qualify.
We conducted a keyword search to see if any credible news outlets reported Nigeriaโs alleged qualification, but we found none.
DUBAWA also checked the official X and Facebook accounts of Nigeriaโs national football team, and did not find any related information about the claim.
Conclusion
The claim that FIFA awarded Nigeria a qualification spot in the global tournament is false. There is no news report or FIFA announcement to corroborate the claim.
