CLAIM: A Facebook user named Biggy Smalls posted a picture claiming that the image shows the “Freetown Highway Sierra Leone,” describing it as proof that even simple scenes can be breathtakingly beautiful.

VERDICT: False! The AI-generated image is not a real photo of any highway in Freetown or elsewhere in Sierra Leone.

A Facebook user named Biggy Smalls shared a post with a photo showing a clean, well-paved dual carriageway highway with a truck and a bold Sierra Leonean flag waving in the corner. The caption claims the highway is located in Freetown, Sierra Leone, describing it as a beautiful and simple scene.
The post received over 637 reactions, 34 comments, and five shares, meaning many people saw it and may have believed it.
VERIFICATION
DUBAWA took a close look at the picture, which shows several clues that raise doubts about the claim:
Road Pattern & Lane Direction
In Sierra Leone, vehicles drive on the left side of the road. However, in this image, all vehicles are driving on the right side, which is not the typical direction of traffic flow in Freetown or anywhere in Sierra Leone. This is the first major red flag.
Visual Inconsistencies
The picture exhibits signs of digital manipulation or AI-generated details, particularly in the road edges, unrealistic shadows, and the overly sharp and colourful appearance of the image. These are common signs of AI or software-edited photos. DUBAWA used an AI-generated tool called Illuminarty; the result showed 65.1% AI-generated content.
Reverse Image Search:
Using Google Reverse Image Search, similar images appear as AI-generated content shared in different contexts, sometimes with other country flags added. This further shows the picture was not taken in Sierra Leone.
Expert Insight:
Some users in the comments already pointed out that no part of Freetown has such a highway, and Sierra Leone’s road infrastructure, while improving, does not match the standard seen in the photo.
CONCLUSION:
The claim that the image shows the Freetown Highway in Sierra Leone is false. The image is AI-generated and does not reflect Freetown’s true road design or driving system.
