Information Minister Jerolinmek Matthew Piah has alleged that inflation has reduced from 12.8% to 4.0%.
He made the claim exactly seven minutes into the Ministry of Information press conference on Tuesday, August 25, 2025.
Minister Piah made the claim while highlighting government achievements since taking office in January 2024.
DUBAWA decided to fact-check the claim as part of its mandate to counter misinformation and disinformation and promote truth-telling in public discourse.
Verification
The current administration of President Joseph Boakai was inaugurated in January 2024.
Research conducted by DUBAWA from the official website of the Liberia Institute of Statistics and Geo-Information Services shows that the Inflation rate in December 2023 stood at 10.0%, while in December 2024 it rose to 10.7%.
The year-on-year inflation rate for December 2025 was 4.0%.
Conclusion
Based on available data from Liberia’s statistics house (LISGIS), the claim by Minister Jerolinmek Piah that Liberia’s inflation rate fell from 12.8% to 4.0% is false.
