False! Kompany not sacked as Bayern’s head coach

Bayern Munich got routed 6-5 on aggregate by Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) in the Champions League semi-finals, yesterday, May 6, 2026.

The Bundesliga giants hoped to make a comeback from their 5-4 first-leg defeat in Paris, but were shocked in the third minute when Ousmane Dembele struck in a traverse pass from Kvicha Kvaratskhelia to set the visitors ahead. Despite Harry Kane’s late goal in the fourth minute of stoppage time, Bayern still had a goal deficit to answer to, but were also at a loss for time. 

Following their unfortunate loss and reeling Champions League exit, an X user claims (archived here) that Bayern Munich has fired its head coach, Vincent Kompany. 

As of Thursday, May 7, 2026, the post has earned 879,600 views, 108 comments, 78 retweets, 2,700 likes, and 149 bookmarks.

While some X users were shocked at the alleged sudden dismissal of the Belgian, others labelled it as a fake post.

“Lol, that would have been the most football manager thing to happen,” @RandomUnitedFan expressed.

“Fake. He’s done amazing,” RobDonalds38035 dismissed.

“The media and spreading false information for clicks is annoying lately,” @naijamindfiles wrote.

Due to the sensitivity of the post, the diverse reaction, and to forestall the spread of misinformation, DUBAWA decided to verify the claim. 

Verification

DUBAWA conducted a keyword search related to Kompany’s alleged dismissal. We noticed that no credible media outlet has reported the sack. 

We checked Bayern Munich’s official website, which lists Kompany as the club’s head coach. We also checked Bayern Munich’s official X handle and found no news of the 40-year-old’s alleged dismissal. 

Moreover, DUBAWA discovered that the handle quoted Kompany’s remarks on the club’s Champions League campaign as head coach, stating, “We will try again.”

The claim is false. Bayern Munich still recognises Kompany as the club’s head coach.
