The Chairperson of the Congress for Democratic Change, Foday Massaquoi, has alleged on Facebook that the Finance Minister, Augustine Ngafuan, informed the Speaker, Richard Koon, that the government has already spent $3.4 million on the Liberia-Guinea border crisis.

The post by Massaquoi follows reports of a border dispute between Guinea and Liberia, which has sparked a diplomatic row between the two countries.

Our researcher first contacted the claimant to provide details about his claim, but he has since refused to respond to numerous inquiries. 

The researcher contacted the Office of the Speaker through its Communications focus person, V. Vehzelee Sumo, who denied the claim as “baseless.”

The researcher also contacted the Director of Communications at the Ministry of Finance, Patience Senkpeni Kumeh, who also denied the allegation as “false.”

“That is false, the Minister has not said anything of such.”

However, no media institution has ever reported that the Government of Liberia has spent $3.4 million on the Liberia-Guinea border crisis.

Conclusion

Based on the claimant’s failure to provide evidence to back his claim and responses from the Communications Department of the Ministry of Finance and the Speaker’s office, the claim made is false.
