A strong supporter of the Unity Party government, George Lobbo has claimed that the Liberian National Police was ranked 17th on the African Continent during the previous leadership of Police Inspector General Gregory Coleman under former President Sirleaf’s presidency.
He made the claim during a 20-minute live Facebook feed.
“Let’s go to Gregory Coleman, for example, current Inspector General of Police. Under his watch as IG during the leadership of the former Unity Party government, you all recall that the Liberia National Police was ranked 17 on the continent of Africa, under Gregory Coleman’s stewardship.”
His Facebook live feed generated 133 likes, 216 comments, and 26 shares.
DUBAWA decided to conduct a fact-check on the claim as part of its mandate to counter misinformation and disinformation and to promote truth-telling in public discourse.
Verification
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Gregory Coleman was appointed Police Inspector General by former President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf in September 2016. Upon taking office in January 2018, former President George Weah appointed Patrick Sudue as Police Inspector General, replacing Gregory Coleman.
To verify the claim, our researcher first contacted George Lobbo to request evidence and sources, but he refused to respond to inquiries.
