On Sunday, Aug. 30, 2026, several social media users began circulating a memo claiming that OPay, a digital financial services provider, will stop operations on Sept. 1, 2026. The memo further advises customers to withdraw their funds from the bank application.
Part of the memo reads, “This is to officially inform you that starting from 1st September, 2026, OPay will go on a long, indefinite break.
During this period, we will not be attending to any transactions or account-related services until further notice.
We regret any inconvenience this may cause and thank you for being a part of the OPay community.”
Since it started circulating, there have been fears and worries among many Nigerians who believed the memo was officially from OPay.
Having noticed that most Nigerians believed the claim was authentic, DUBAWA decided to verify it.
Verification
Firstly, DUBAWA checked the company’s official social media pages (X and Facebook) and found a rejoinder by the organisation debunking the viral memo as fake.
The company clarified the issue, stating, “This is FALSE! OPay is not going on break by September. We’re here, and we’re going nowhere.”
The rejoinder further points out red flags in the circulating memo, including the wrong logo, an incorrectly spelt brand name, and the wrong template, among others.

Conclusion
Viral posts claiming that OPay will be going on an indefinite break are misleading and false.
