On August 4, 2026, a Facebook page called BORN 2 BLOG (archived here) shared two images claiming that the U.S. President had arrived in Sierra Leone.
The post reads: “Breaking News. American president has visited Sierra Leone. He is presently in Freetown with the Sierra Leone Authority and Papa Bio’s family.”
The first image depicts Donald Trump shaking hands with President Julius Maada Bio at Freetown International Airport. The second image shows him posing inside the State House with First Lady Fatima Bio and a young girl. The post generated significant online engagement, recording 292 reactions, 62 comments, and 3 shares before verification.
Given the potential diplomatic sensitivity and high public interest, DUBAWA conducted a fact-check to verify the claim.
Verification
DUBAWA analysed both photos using a forensic detection tool, aiornot.com. The tool rated the airport image as 100% likely to be AI-generated, while the State House image received a 98% probability score. Close inspection of the images also revealed common visual indicators of synthetic generation, such as unnatural lighting, blurred facial features on background bystanders, and warped hands.
