A Twitter user claimed that Willie Obiano, the Governor of Anambra State, procured over 100 SUVs for Anambra state traditional monarchs.
True: the claim that Gov. Willie Obiano has bought over 100 SUVs for traditional monarchs in Anambra State is true. All shreds of evidence point to the truthfulness of the claim.
A twitter user, @henryshield, claimed that Willie Obiano, the Governor of Anambra State, procured over 100 SUVs as gifts for monarchs in the state. As evidence, the claimant shared some pictures of SUVs displayed in an array, presumably as evidence of the alleged cars to be given out to the monarchs.
So far, the tweet has attracted 198 comments, 551 retweets, and over 1,100 likes in just 22 hours of its execution.
Even more, the claim soon attracted an avalanche of diverse discourses. A user, @lethal_alves with a contrary opinion about the claim, stated that the cars were rather a donation to Anambra State police, disputing the claimants allegations.
Conversely, some users who share similar views with the claimants accused Mr. Willie of mismanagement of state funds.
A Google reverse search of the claimant’s pictures traced it to multiple reliable media sources that reported the story. Channels TV shared a visual report of the event headlined as ‘Governor Obiano Distributes 151 vehicles to Monarchs in Anambra state’, where the Governor was seen delivering a speech about the car gifts. This same report was also in a video report by Njenje TV Media, where a live streamed coverage showcased the Monarchs receiving the new SUVs each after the other.
In the same vein, ThisDay newspaper also shared a report in line with the claim, which states:
“Anambra State Governor, Chief Willie Obiano, yesterday, presented 130 brand new Ikenga IVM SUV vehicles made by Nigerian vehicle manufacturer, Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing (IVM) to 130 traditional rulers in the state.”
Even more, the Anambra Broadcasting Service (ABS) shared on its verified Facebook page and on its official website details concerning the governor’s car gifts to the traditional monarchs in the state.
In a brief telephone conversation, Oilsa Agusiobo the Personal Assistant to the Chairman, Anambra State Traditional Rulers Council and Obi of Onisha, HRH Alfred Achebe, confirmed the gesture.
“Governor Obiano’s car gifts to chief is a great gesture and is hoped that this will foster unity and loyalty to constituted authority”, he said.
Also, the state’s Commissioner for Local Government, Community and Chieftaincy Affairs, Greg Obi, confirmed the gesture in a telephone conversation.
Evidence from multiple sources shows that the claim is true. Gov. Willie actually bought over 100 SUVs for traditional monarchs in Anambra State.
