Claim: A Facebook user claims Liverpool has signed Florian Wirtz.

Verdict: False. Available reports reveal that Liverpool is keen on signing the German international, including consulting with the club’s hierarchy to discuss Wirtz’s transfer clause. However, Liverpool has not officially announced that they have signed the 22-year-old.
Full Text
Despite having a two-year remainder on his contract with Bayer Leverkusen, German international Florian Wirtz has attracted immense interest from top European clubs. These clubs include Real Madrid and Bayern Munich, while Manchester City surprisingly dropped out of the race.
The intense chase for the 22-year-old is hardly surprising after being part of Xabi Alonso’s formidable squad that remained an unbeaten side to clinch the Bundesliga title in their 2023/2024 campaign. Moreover, the attacking midfielder has only turned impressive after scoring 16 goals and providing 15 goal assists across all competitions this season.
However, a Facebook user, Jonathan Nathaniel Nathjoe, shared a post claiming Liverpool has signed the German international.
“Breaking News!! Liverpool signed Florian Wirtz,” The Facebook user shared.
He further quoted the midfielder claiming that, despite Man City and Bayern Munich wanting to sign him, he chose Liverpool instead because an undisclosed Liverpool player had asked him to.
“Manchester City and Bayern Munich came with a good offer, but I chose to join Arne Slot’s team because of this particular player (undisclosed),” Wirtz allegedly stated.
As of Wednesday, May 21, 2025, the Facebook post has garnered 16,200 likes and 149 shares.
Due to the race to purchase the German player ahead of the 2025/2026 season, DUBAWA decided to verify the claim.
Verification
DUBAWA conducted a keyword search for the current transfer update about the Bayer Leverkusen star. We came across reports that explained the current details of the player’s transfer status.
Anfield Index reports that top Liverpool figures are making concerted efforts to discuss Wirtz’s financial package with Fenway Sports Group, the club’s owners. The intent is to get the figures around the German’s transfer clause approved by Liverpool’s owners.
“The bosses around football boss Michael Edwards (45) are to fly to Boston this week. The English want to get the figures for the Wirtz transfer approved by the club owners of the Fenway Sports Group,” the report quoted.
Goal.com reports that despite contentions from rival clubs, Bayer Munich, Real Madrid, and Man City, the Reds have been ahead of them all, “having met with Wirtz’s family last week.” However, Liverpool has not made any official announcement about signing the midfielder.
Sky Sports also reported that although Liverpool is keen on signing Wirtz, they need assurances he would leave Germany before making a bid for his €150 million (£126 million) transfer clause.
DUBAWA checked Liverpool’s website about the Facebook claim but found no related announcement.
Conclusion
The claim is false. There is no credible evidence that Liverpool has purchased the player.
