Liverpool yet to sign new contract with Salah, contrary to Facebook user’s claim

Between 2017—the year Liverpool signed the Egyptian—and 2025, Mohammed Salah was instrumental in helping the English club win major trophies, including a European Champions League Cup and a domestic league cup. This is why the 32-year-old has always been sought after by top European clubs, including Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Saudi pro league side Al-Ittihad.

Netting 21 goals and making 17 assists this season, Salah is highly anticipated to lift the Premier League Cup with his side Liverpool as they, by a large-gap margin, lead second-placed Arsenal with 17 points.

Amidst this development, a Facebook user, Arne Slot Fans, claims Salah has renewed his contract with The Reds.

“Breaking: Mohamed Salah Makes First Statement After Signing New Liverpool Contract.” The Facebook user claimed.

As of Tuesday, Mar. 4, 2025, the claim has attracted 16,000 likes, 925 comments, and 152 shares.

This Facebook post, however, generated opposing views in the comment section, as most other users believe the alleged development is false.

“Fake news. Check out his hair.” Emi Nkem Morr pointed out.

“Fake news. Salah got short hair now.” Diane Marie New argued.

“Nice one. God bless.” Osman Sesay wrote.

Due to the controversial reaction to the post, DUBAWA decided to verify the claim.

Verification

DUBAWA conducted keyword searches on Google to confirm the Facebook post’s veracity, but no credible media outlet had reported a new agreement between Liverpool and Salah.

In January 2025, Sky Sports reported that current Saudi pro league champions Al Hilal, are interested in the 32-year-old. They are looking for a “high-profile signing” replacement for Neymar Jr. after the Brazilian mutually terminated his contract with Al Hilal due to injuries.

Al Hilal hopes it can woo Salah, who is now four months away from the end of his contract with Liverpool, with a lucrative deal and get him to play in the Club World Cup in June and July. However, much of that has remained uncertain.

Speculations have wound around the striker on Liverpool having him at Anfield for much longer than his contract stipulates. TNT Sports reported in February 2025 that Salah “could yet sign a new contract at Liverpool” after his agent, Ramy Abbas, commended Liverpool’s head coach, Arne Slot, for being seven points clear from their closest rival, Arsenal.

The outlet quoted the Mirror saying, “Mohamed Salah’s agent has just dropped a curious hint about his Liverpool future by posting a message of praise for head coach Arne Slot. The Egyptian star’s Anfield future remains up in the air with only four and half months remaining on his contract…”

But on Sunday, Mar. 2, 2025, Yahoo Sports quoted Telefoot, mentioning that Salah “wishes to remain at Liverpool” although his contract only limits him to four months on Merseyside. Telefoot posted a video on X of Salah training with other teammates at Anfield, writing that sources say the striker wants to stay at Anfield and is not discussing with any other club presently.

Conclusion

The claim that Salah has signed a new contract with Liverpool is false. Salah’s stay beyond his current contract only remains a speculation.
