Claim: An X user claimed that Fulani Islamic jihadists ambushed and killed ten Nigerian Police officers.
Verdict: Misleading. While the incident occurred in Kebbe Local Government Area of Sokoto State, available evidence shows that one police officer was killed, while two patrol vehicles were burnt.

An X user, Okanumee Uchechukwu (@okanumeee2), shared a video claiming that Fulani Islamic jihadist terrorists ambushed 10 Nigeria Police officers and killed all of them, alleging that no officer survived the attack.
The post (archived here), which tagged the Nigeria Police Force, the Nigerian government, the United States president and Human Rights Watch, also accused the Nigerian government of being a terrorist organisation.
The caption reads, “Nigeria Fulani Islamic Jihadists Terrorists Ambushed Ten Nigeria Police Officers Yesterday @PoliceNG & Killed Them All. No one escaped; until today, no Nigerian terrorists, social media, and media houses are talking about it. @NigeriaGov is the biggest terrorist organisation. @POTUS @hrw.”
As of Aug. 14, 2026, the post had generated 101,400 views, 99 replies and 950 reposts.
Reacting to the claim, Sinachi (@OPromeese) blamed the security agencies for failing to adequately respond to banditry, alleging that officers sometimes arrest suspects only to release them later.
Another user, Delores Barnum (@DonaldBarnum3), questioned the claim, saying the incident appeared staged. Delores wrote, “Very soon the state government will request 230 billion for the security budget.”

Given the potential of the claim to mislead, DUBAWA decided to verify the incident and establish what happened.
Verification
DUBAWA first examined the video shared alongside the claim. The footage shows armed men chanting while moving around and burning vehicles. DUBAWA confirmed that the language spoken in the video is Hausa.
One of the armed men in the video mentioned the Kebbe Local Government Area, providing a clue to the incident’s location. Kebbe is a town and local government area located in Sokoto State, Northwestern Nigeria.
DUBAWA also manually examined the vehicles shown in the video. The markings and appearance of one of the vehicles indicate that it belongs to the Nigeria Police Force Divisional Headquarters in Kebbe.

DUBAWA then conducted keyword searches using details from the video and found reports of a gun battle between security forces and bandits in Kebbe Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
Reports by Daily Trust, Leadership and Daily Post Newspapers linked the incident to fresh attacks recorded across Kebbe Local Government Area of Sokoto State on Aug. 3, 2026. According to the reports, only one police officer, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Bala Wakili, was killed during the attack.
The bandits also reportedly set two patrol vehicles ablaze; one belonging to the Nigerian Police Force and another belonging to the Sokoto Community Guard Corps.
The spokesperson for the Sokoto State Police Command, DSP Ahmad Rufa’i, also confirmed the attack in the news report, stating that a police officer had “paid the supreme price” in the line of duty.
Conclusion
The claim that terrorists ambushed ten Nigeria Police officers and killed all of them is misleading. While a bandit attack occurred in Kebbe Local Government Area of Sokoto State, available evidence shows that only one police officer, ASP Bala Wakili, was killed, while two patrol vehicles were burnt.
