Facebook is one of the most active social media platforms worldwide. Users can easily connect and communicate with their families. The platform is also used for information sharing, education, and entertainment.

However, on April 18, 2024, a user, Emmanuel Hush Seoh, posted on a Shaking Table Association page that Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has warned users against taking screenshots of their messages.

Seoh claimed the restriction was a good step for Liberians on the platform.

“Mark Zuckerberg warns Facebook users not to screenshot chats. This one is good, especially for our Liberian society,” he added.

The post generated 41 reactions and 32 comments at the time of this writing.

In the comments, users reacted to the statement as censorship imposed by Mark Zuckerberg, while some argued that the claim was false.

Verification

In Fact-checking this claim, DUBAWA used Google Reverse Image Search to trace its originality. Our research found that the claim was first published by IGV (Innovative Global Vision), a marketing website, on February 23, 2024, and updated on April 19.

The article published by the site didn’t reference when and where Mark Zuckerberg made the claim.

The Researcher decided to check with Meta to authenticate the claim made but received no response after sending several emails. However, checks on Mark Zuckerberg’s official accounts on Facebook page and Instagram show no such warning was issued.

Further research was done on  Facebook’s official website, where such a post was not found.

Conclusion

Our research shows that there’s no evidence to substantiate the claim.
