A Facebook user @Mr Real shared a video with the claim that it showed a Pakistani Boko Haram member apprehended by the Nigerian Army.
The video’s caption reads, “Arrest one Pakistani Boko Haram in Nigeria that is working as an agent.”
The 15-second-long video (archived here) showed a split screen, with a man holding a gun on the right side, while the person who shared the video was seen on the left side saying, “Congratulations to Nigeria. You see all these white people have a hand in this. They just caught this man now.”
As of Aug. 9, 2026, the video had garnered 18,000 likes, 432 comments, over 1,400 shares, and 1.7 million views.
We checked the comments to know what users thought.
@Abubakar Adamu wondered, “Who brought him?”
@Antenyi Samson requested evidence, asking, “What is the evidence?”
@Oakland Willis asked, “Where was he caught?”
From DUBAWA’s observations in the comments, most respondents asked for more details about the claim.
Another Facebook user shared the same claim here. Several other users shared the claim, but because the video was a reel, which restricts users from accessing links, DUBAWA was unable to retrieve links to the posts.
Due to the posts’ high engagement and the suspicious nature of the claim, DUBAWA decided to verify the claim’s authenticity.
Verification
DUBAWA began by submitting the video to InVID to extract keyframes, which were then used for reverse image searches. The searches led us to a YouTube video with the same image of the man. When we clicked on the link, the video was unavailable. We continued searching using the same image, but the results kept redirecting us to videos from Afghanistan, none of which showed the man.
We used WhoPostedWhat, a Facebook tool that can help trace where a post was first shared; still, the search yielded no result.
We then searched for reports from credible news platforms detailing the alleged apprehension of a Pakistani man by the Nigerian Army, but we found nothing.
If such an incident had occurred, it would likely have been reported by credible news outlets and the Nigerian Army with the suspect’s image and details that DUBAWA could cross-check.
Conclusion
DUBAWA found no evidence to prove that the man in the video was a Pakistani Boko Haram member apprehended by the Nigerian Army.
