Peter Obi's 2022 campaign video recirculated as fresh youth rally in Abuja

Full Text

On Oct. 16, 2026, Facebook user Inifa H Godson shared a video (archived here) claiming it shows Peter Obi’s supporters at a rally in Abuja. The user claimed this rally follows a statement by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, that he had secured Abuja for the All Progressives Congress (APC).

A caption attached to the video reads, “Shortly after Wike said he has already won Abuja for APC, Abuja Youths came out to say, We Are Waiting For the Election, as they chant OBI with placards and banners.”

As of Oct. 17, 2026, the video had garnered over 617,000 views, 4,000 comments, 3,500 shares and 33,300 likes.

Some users, however, disputed the location attributed to the footage.

Olútóbi Adéyemí wrote, “First and foremost, this was when he was in the Labour Party, and this video took place in Cross River State.”

Biesie Ndu Nwachi commented, “When Wike saw this crowd chanting Obi, he took the next available flight to Rivers State.”

Graceful Edos wrote, “We readyoooooo. Na so we go video all over Nigeria as we dey vote for Obi come January 2027. The whole world go see us as we dey vote for Obi. Hallelujah.”

The video was also posted here, here, here, and here.

Given the conflicting comments,  DUBAWA decided to fact-check the claim.

Verification

One of the first details that caught DUBAWA’s attention was the Labour Party flag visible in the footage. In 2023, Peter Obi contested the presidential election under the Labour Party. However, for the 2027 general election, he is running under the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).

DUBAWA also observed that one of the banners in the video bears an inscription referencing Cross River State, contradicting the claim that the rally took place in Abuja.

Further checks revealed that OMTV published the same video four years ago on Oct. 3, 2022. The post was captioned, “Peter Obi tsunami in Cross River State this morning! This rally is Obidients mobilisation!”

Similarly, VOX POP NIGERIA shared the footage four years ago with the caption, “OBIdients Rally happening now in Calabar, Cross River State.”

These earlier publications indicate that the footage predates the current claim and depicts a Peter Obi supporters’ rally in Calabar, Cross River State under LP.

The video therefore does not show Abuja youth gathering to chant in support of Obi after Wike’s alleged statement.

Conclusion

The claim that the video shows a recent rally of Obi’s youth supporters in Abuja is false. While the footage is real, it shows a 2022 rally in Calabar, Cross River State, supporting Peter Obi under the Labour Party.
