Claim: An ex-worker in the government of the former ruling CDC shared two photos on social media, alleging they are “fresh pictures from the University of Liberia,” students’ September 1, 2025, protest.

Verdict: Misleading. One of the pictures was taken four years ago, while there is no evidence to show the other was from the students’ September 1, 2025, protest.

On Monday, September 1, 2025, members of the Student Unification Party (SUP), a campus-based political group at the University of Liberia (UL), staged a protest at UL.
The students, among other things, protested for what they referred to as the poor condition of the school, calling at the same time for the resignation of the president of the university.
A few minutes after the protest, a former special assistant at the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning posted two pictures on Facebook, claiming they were “fresh pictures from the University of Liberia.

Aloysius Howe said the police were inflicting severe bodily injuries on the students who were protesting.
The over hundred commenters on Howe’s post had mixed views about the images he shared. Some said the pictures were old, while others accused the Boakai-led government of destroying the country.
To promote truth in the information ecosystem, DUBAWA verified the images.
Verification
DUBAWA ran the images on Google Images and found that the picture of a man’s head being tied in a bloody white cloth was not fresh from SUP’s September 1, 2025, protest.
The image has been around for over three years. Multiple media outlets reported a protest action by the same student group in 2021, and many publications bear the image.
The reports are also seen here, here, and here.
As for the image of the bloody hand wrapped in a bandage, DUBAWA conducted multiple reverse searches, but could not find any evidence to prove that the picture was taken in the past or from the September protest.
DUBAWA, however, stumbled on a post made by SUP on the day of the protest, in which they shared the exact picture believed to be from the protest.
DUBAWA spoke with the student group’s secretary general, who said student Edward Scotland is the one whose injured hand is seen in the bandage.
According to Odecious Mulbah, Scotland is currently home to those receiving treatment.
Conclusion
One of the images shared by Aloysius Howe is not from SUP’s September 1, 2025, protest, while there is no evidence to prove the other is from the protest.
