A Facebook user named Historiadevuda posted pictures of Cristiano Ronaldo with a caption that reads, “Cristiano Ronaldo receives a warning about the possible purchase of Manchester United shares and responds firmly.”ย
The post included several images of Ronaldo in a suit, seemingly signing documents and speaking at what appears to be Manchester United’s stadium and offices.
Verification
DUBAWA reviewed the claim and the attached images and found no evidence from reputable news outlets confirming that Cristiano Ronaldo plans to purchase shares in Manchester United.
When we ran the pictures through reverse image search platforms, they did not indicate that they had been used on any credible platform, which is quite bizarre for a story of this magnitude.
The only platform on which these pictures showed up was a Facebook page that had similar suspicious reports, one of which included Ronaldoโs Al Nassir signing Real Madridโs Vinicius Jr.
Upon closer inspection of the images, the following signs suggest they are AI-generated:
The hands in some images appear unnaturally shaped, a common issue in AI-generated images.
The fact-checker runs the image on an AI-generated tool, Illuminarty, and the result shows that 95.7% of it was AI-generated.ย
No sports journalism outlets like BBC Sports, Sky Sports, ESPN,ย orย Manchester United reported such a significant financial move involving Ronaldo.ย
Conclusion
The claim that Cristiano Ronaldo plans to buy Manchester United shares is false. The images used to support the post are AI-generated.
