The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officially flagged off public campaigns for Nigeria’s 2027 presidential and National Assembly elections on Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2026.
The 2027 presidential race has three major contenders: Atiku Abubakar of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Peter Obi of the New Democratic Congress (NDC), and the incumbent President, Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
With political activities increasing ahead of the elections, campaign-related claims and videos have also continued to circulate on social media.
Against this backdrop, a Facebook page, Grassroot Alliance Movement, shared a video (archived here) on Aug. 30, 2026, claiming that Senator Ned Nwoko was in Agbor, Delta State, campaigning for Atiku Abubakar.
The video showed Senator Nwoko on a raised platform addressing a crowd made up primarily of young people, and some audience members could be heard shouting, ‘PDP’. However, the camera moved away from the podium to show young people chanting ‘Obi’.
The post was captioned, “Ned Nwoko was in Agbor campaigning for Atiku. Look at what happened. Delta State is OBIDIENT. NDC will win, even in Okowa’s LGA, if we guard our votes! Peter Obi is coming.”
As of Sept. 4, 2026, the post had attracted over 59,000 views, 74 comments, 187 shares and 960 likes.
Some users appeared to interpret the video as evidence of current political support for Peter Obi. Chidi Nwokenna commented, “Atiku should queue behind Obi. Simple,” while Kelechi Nk Jacob wrote, “Delta State is fully obidient. But this is an old video from the 2023 election.”
Similarly, Emmanuel Nwafor commented, “Good one. They will tell you say na old video,” while Hope Izundu Uwalaka wrote, “Mr Peter Obi for presidency.”

DUBAWA decided to fact-check the claim because the 2027 election campaign season is underway, and circulating old political videos as recent events could mislead the public about politicians’ current political activities and affiliations.
Verification
To verify the claim, DUBAWA subjected the video to InVID, a video verification tool used to trace and authenticate online videos. The verification led DUBAWA to a TikTok page, NaijaViralPolitics, where the video was published in 2023.
The video was accompanied by the caption, “Billionaire Ned Nwoko couldn’t campaign for PDP as the crowd chanted Peter Obi in his face.”
The footage shows Senator Ned Nwoko at a political gathering, where members of the crowd can be heard chanting, “Obi, Obi,” apparently in support of Peter Obi. However, contrary to the impression created by the 2026 Facebook post, the footage was not recorded during the ongoing 2027 election campaign.
Further checks by DUBAWA established that the video, which dates back to the 2023 election period, was posted on Legit.ng and TheNicheng. At the time, Nwoko was a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and campaigned across Delta North ahead of the senatorial election. Nwoko subsequently won the Delta North senatorial seat in the 2023 election on the PDP platform. Both Atiku and Senator Ned Nwoko have left the PDP.
Conclusion
The claim that the video shows Senator Ned Nwoko campaigning for Atiku in Agbor, Delta State, during the 2027 election campaign is false.
