Verdict: FALSE! The man in the picture is the new deputy governor, Joel Oyibo and his wife. Channels Television also confirmed the report.

The governorship elections of Kogi State, held on Nov 11, 2023, ushered in the administration of Usman Ododo of the All Progressives Congress. Mr Ododo’s swearing-in was hosted at the state capital, Lokoja, with the attendance of the past governor Yahaya Bello.
Jimi Disu on X tweeted that the newly inaugurated governor and his wife were seen prostrating before the former governor, Mr Bello, at the swearing-in ceremony.
Mr Disu attached the inauguration picture with the caption:
“Why are we so primitive? Newly inaugurated Kogi State Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo and his wife, prostrating for the immediate-past Governor, Yahaya Adoza Bello, in obeisance at the inauguration venue in Lokoja. Please pray for Nigeria.”
Bisi Oladipo commented, “Baba, I know you understand. This shows where power resides. It shows that Bello is still the governor.”
Another user, Prince Yahaya, disagreeing with the post, wrote, “It was his deputy, not the governor oooo!”
The post has garnered 734 likes, 331 reposts, and 61,000 views since it was published on Jan 28, 2024.
The conflicting comments and the personalities involved made DUBAWA investigate the claim.
Verification
We conducted a reverse image search on the image using INVid, a verification tool and found the video form on Channels Television’s X platform.
The footage showed the deputy governor, Joel Oyibo, prostrating before Mr Bello and his wife, not Mr Ododo.
A keyword search also showed that Sahara Reporter posted the picture with the headline “Kogi Deputy Governor, Joel Oyibo, prostrates self before Ex-Gov Yahaya Bello Immediately after Swearing-In.”
Hence, Mr Disu’s post is false.
Conclusion
The post made by Mr Disu about Mr Ododo prostrating before the ex-governor is false. The person in the picture is the deputy governor.
