Claim: An X user (@OjiUgo_nwa) shared a video claiming it shows members of a terrorist group responsible for kidnapping, rape, and ransom-related crimes in Nigeria.
Verdict: False. Verification traced the footage to Somalia in a report by Calamda.net, and no evidence links the alleged group to terrorist activities in Nigeria.

On Sunday, June 7, 2026, an X user, OjiUgo (@OjiUgo_nwa), posted a video (Achieved here), claiming that the men featured in the footage are a terrorist group who kidnap, rape, and demand ransom from their victims. The user also alleged that the group openly broadcasts live videos and hosts giveaways online, yet remains untouched.
The footage shows men in the first row with military uniforms and others behind in casual wear, all sitting on the ground with rifles, repeating statements made by their commander. A few others stand in front with a cameraman and a lady taking pictures with her phone.
As of June 10, 2026, the video had gained 7,004 views, 155 reposts, 107 likes, 33 replies, and 18 bookmarks.
The claim attracted reactions from users who condemned their actions.
“Omo, this is barbaric, Eziokwu. They kill, behead, and kidnap military officers and commanders/generals too, yet the Nigerian fighter jets cannot locate these beasts to neutralise them. Shame on the Nigerian armed forces. They die while politicians play politics with terrorism,” X user, Jossy (@joejossy_76), wrote.
Another user, Kamalu Onyioha Onyioha (@kamaluO42115) commented, “As the jihad rolls down south, we need to begin now to take intentional steps toward organising in all the safer regions of Nigeria, especially the southeast, before our farmlands, women, children, men and communities become part of the statistics.”
The claim also went viral on X, Instagram and Facebook: here, here and here.
Due to the sensitive nature of the claim amidst the ongoing security issues in Nigeria, DUBAWA decided to verify the video.
Verification
We subjected the video to InVID for verification. We conducted reverse image searches with keyframes from the video. Our search led to a video post by Somalia-based YouTube channel HMC Somali TV, captioned
“Dowladda oo Soo Bandhigtay Ciidamadii la wareegi lahaa Baydhabo”, translated to English as “The government presents the troops that would take over Baidoa.”
We also found a publication on Calamda.net dated March 24, 2026.
The publication headline in the Somali language reads, “Gurguurte Iyo Kooxdiisa Oo Lagu Eedeeyey In Dagaal Sokeeye Ka Hurinayaan Deegaannada ‘Koonfur Galbeed.” In English, on Google Translate, it means “A militant and his group are accused of fomenting civil war in the south-west regions.”
The published report highlights political and security tensions in Somalia, including accusations by the Southwest administration against the Federal Government over alleged militia deployments. The report does not mention Nigeria or alleged terrorist group activities as claimed by @OjiUgo_nwa.
The Southwest region of Somalia is in the heart of a long-running conflict with the militant group Al-Shabaab. The region hosts many military camps, training, operations, and international peacekeeping missions, including the African Union Mission in Somalia. Sometimes, videos from the south-west region are misidentified and shared with false claims online.
Conclusion
We traced the video to a Somali publication on March 24, 2026, that discussed alleged militia activities and political tensions in Somalia’s South West region. Hence, the claim is false.
