Claim: A viral video on social media shows Peter Drury eulogising Cristiano Ronaldo, putting him ahead of Lionel Messi.

Verdict: False! Our investigation showed that the video was doctored from an unrelated video when Peter Drury spoke on Hayter’s TV about his journalism career two years ago. The video also has AI content features.
Full Text
Peter Drury, known for using poetic artistry in commentary, has stolen the football world with his mind-blowing diction. His use of words is inspired by poetry, lyricism, and metaphor, making his expressions figuratively catchy and thrilling.
He uses figurative language, such as hyperbole, metaphor, and alliteration, to create vivid and emotional descriptions of footballing moments.
Through his use of words, Peter Drury has analysed the skills, impacts, and influence Cristiano and Lionel Messi have had in football.
In 2020, Peter Drury was hosted by Nana Aba Anamoah in an interview, where he gave a fair description of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, without directly deciding on which one of them is regarded as the Greatest of All Time (GOAT).
For instance, Drury’s description emphasised Ronaldo’s enthralling physical prowess, athleticism, and relentless goal-scoring ability.
However, he also described Messi’s unique dribbling skills, vision, and ability to “weave through spaces that don’t exist,” comparing him to a “slippery eel” who defies physics.
In that interview with Nana Aba, he suggested that if he were to choose which player he would prefer to watch play every day for the rest of his life, he would lean towards Messi because he appears to do the “impossible.”
However, a viral video by Kante Man showed Peter Drury in an interview describing Cristiano Ronaldo and putting him ahead of Messi.
Peter Drury can be heard saying: “Football’s eternal question: who is the greatest of all time? Two names are forever bound. Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. Yet, if destiny forced my hand, if history demanded a single choice, it would be Cristiano Ronaldo.”

DUBAWA decided to fact-check the claim due to its potential to mislead.
Verification
Firstly, DUBAWA conducted a Google keyword search but found that no credible news agency reported the claim.
Secondly, our investigation found that the video was edited from a Hayters TV podcast in 2023, during which Peter Drury was interviewed about his journalism and broadcasting career.
In the original video, Peter Drury said nothing related to Messi and Ronaldo’s GOAT debate.
Further search showed that the video had features of AI-generated content.
Although the video featured Peter Drury’s voice, his description of Ronaldo was fictitious. The video was edited perfectly to form a narrative on the GOAT debate, putting Cristiano ahead of his long-term rival.
Our careful observation of the video also showed that Peter Drury spoke unnaturally in a fast tone, a pattern mostly found in deepfakes or cheap fakes.
Conclusion
Our investigation showed that the video was doctored from an unrelated video when Peter Drury was speaking on Hayters’ TV about his journalism career two years ago. The video also features AI-generated content.
