Following the 67th Annual Grammy Awards, which took place on Feb. 2, 2025, in Los Angeles, social media users announced that David Adeleke, famous as Davido, was among the winners.
On X, @Honest30bgback posted a manipulated image of the Awuke crooner dressed as a woman as he raised the plaque in his right hand. He wrote:
“Even if your phone is 1 per cent, congratulations to Davido on his Grammy win.”
On Facebook, KB Focus and IZEH made posts congratulating Davido. They said he finally won his first Grammy after years of unsuccessful nominations. Due to the virality of these posts and the personality involved, DUBAWA subjected these claims to verification.
Verification
Davido is an influential musician, especially among young Nigerians. As such, it would be all over the news if he truly won. Hence, DUBAWA conducted a keyword search on Google, but contrary to the claims, results showed that the pop star did not win in any category of the awards. We also checked the winner’s list as published on Billboard but did not find the alpha of “30BG” in any category.
Instead, he made a post on X, congratulating Tems and Chris Brown.
He simply wrote, “Congratulations to my one and only! @chrisbrown! And to the Queen @temsbaby, we are proud of you!”
Winning her second Grammy, Tems took the prize for Best African Music Performance. She was nominated alongside Davido, Wizkid, Yemi Alade, Asake, Burna Boy, and other African Artists.
Davido’s gesture has also been reported by national newspapers, as seen here.
Conclusion
The claim that Davido has won the 67th annual Grammy Awards is false. Although nominated, he did not win.
