Facebook flags Nasarawa State’s post as misleading after DUBAWA’S fact-check

Facebook has flagged a post on the official Facebook page of the Nasarawa State Government after DUBAWA’s fact-check found the post to be misleading.

The  post featured  a picture of the ‘before and after’ construction of a road it claims to be in Sisinbaki-Kwarra, Wamba Local Government Council, Nasarawa State, Nigeria.

Headlined as the “Sisinbaki-Kwarra road in Wamba LGC,” the two distinct images were posted on the page as a collage, with the imprints of “before” and “after” on them.

The post attracted multiple reactions from users, mostly applauding the Governor, Engineer Abdullahi Sule, for transforming the road to where it  allegedly was to where it is now.

However, some users shared their doubts about the validity of the post, disputing the “before” picture as alien to Nasarawa State. These opposing views led DUBAWA to conduct a fact-check, and the results found the post to be misleading.

Analysis and a visit to the location traced the “after” picture of the road to Sisinbaki-Kwarra,  Wamba Local Government Council. The  “before” was, however,  an image of a road under construction in Camaçari Metropolitan Road in Lauro de Freitas, Brazil back in 2015.
